Oat Milk Latte Recipe

Move over almond milk; the biggest non-dairy milk right now is oat! Unlike other dairy alternatives, oat milk adds a rich toasty flavor that simply can't be beat! And while you might see it popping up on grocery store shelves, you can easily make your own at home for a quick and satisfying DIY project. With a simple base of water and oats, sweetened with a touch of vanilla and maple syrup, this oat milk is ready in no time with zero soaking time necessary. Froth it up for a hot latte or pour it over ice for a cool concoction, and you can’t go wrong!

Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cook Time: 5 minutes
Serves: 4 lattes

Ingredients:

1 cup rolled oats
2 tablespoons maple syrup
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
4 (2 oz.) shots of espresso or strongly brewed coffee

Special Equipment:
Nut-milk bag or cheesecloth-lined strainer
Electric frothing wand or immersion blender

Directions:

  • In a blender, combine oats, maple syrup and salt with 4 cups of water. Blend until smooth (about 30 seconds) and strain through a nut-milk bag or cheesecloth-lined strainer. Yields: 4 cups oat milk.
  • In a medium saucepan, heat oat milk over medium heat. Using an electric frothing wand or immersion blender, froth oat milk as it heats up. As soon as it begins to steam, remove from the heat.
  • Pour espresso into 4 mugs. Divide the frothed oat milk between each mug and serve.
